Angélica Ruiz, MPH

Environmental Health Analyst

Angélica Ruiz joined PSE in 2021 with expertise in community-based participatory research approaches and citizen science. As an Environmental Health Analyst, her work focuses on the public health impacts of extractive industries, such as oil and natural gas. Prior to joining PSE, Ruiz worked as a research scientist for the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), where she led research on investigating the health impacts of water quality in the Imperial Valley. Before OEHHA, she was an executive fellow at the California Environmental Protection Agency where she worked on the San Ysidro Air Quality and Border Traffic Study to characterize the air pollution health risks faced by the San Ysidro community.

While attending UCLA, Ruiz worked for the Luskin Center for Innovation where she analyzed the impact of COVID-19 on California’s public water systems. In graduate school, she also conducted geospatial analyses of the warehouse industry’s health and environmental impact in California\’s Inland Empire.

Ruiz has a Master’s in Public Health in Environmental Health Science from the University of California, Los Angeles. She received her BS in Health Science and BA in Women and Gender Studies from California State University, Fullerton.
