Beneficial Reuse of Oil Field-Produced Water for Irrigation of Agriculture

Overview

PSE Executive Director Dr. Seth Shonkoff presents considerations of chemical additives from routine oil and gas development operations for science and policy decision-making around recycled water from oil and gas operations. Oil field produced water (wastewater), is currently being sold to farmers and used to irrigate food crops in the San Joaquin Valley of California. Current chemical monitoring and chemical treatment does not take chemical additives into consideration.
